As a Non-Gujarati, I often reflect on the potential impact of belonging to the Gujarati community on my success. The concept of preferential treatment based on ethnicity is a recurring theme. It's interesting to note how in Ahmedabad, Gujarati entrepreneurs sometimes prioritize individuals from their community, even if they may be less skilled, over more qualified Non-Gujaratis. This trend appears to be less prominent in Surat or Baroda, sparking curiosity about the underlying factors at play. This phenomenon is notably more prevalent in the private sector than in the public sector, with a substantial 99% incidence rate. The implications of such preferences raise important questions about meritocracy and the influence of cultural connections on professional prospects.
